Poster unisa

The Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria, in collaboration with UNISA Music Foundation, is pleased to announce the arrival in South Africa of the Italian duo composed by clarinettist Antonio Puglia and pianist Mariano Meloni, who will perform in Cape Town and Pretoria in the period from 18 to 22 April 2024.

Both from Sassari and serving as professors at the local Conservatory of Music, Antonio Puglia and Mariano Meloni began their lifelong collaboration in 1983. Experienced in both solo and chamber performances, they have received positive appreciation from audiences and critics alike. This recognition has allowed them to showcase all around the world their repertoire, ranging from the 18th century to contemporary jazz: from Milan to Malta, Mexico to Spain, Argentina to Kazakhstan.

Antonio Puglia, a cum laude graduate of the Conservatory of Perugia, gave significant contributions to the music scene in both Italy and America. He has been featured on major radio stations such as Radio France, RAI, Radio Cologne, and Radio Vienna, and has recorded for various labels on both continents. Besides his expertise as a clarinettist, he leads ensembles such as AP Clarinetband and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Sardinia. In 2003, he was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President.

Mariano Meloni has performed in over seven hundred concerts across Europe, Mexico, and Argentina. Whether as a soloist or as part of chamber and choral ensembles, his performances have never failed to capture the heart of his audiences. His recordings have since long been featured on channels such as RAI, capturing the essence of his artistry. Currently, he serves as the artistic director of the AdC-Philharmonic Orchestra of Sardinia.
