The Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present, together with EUNIC, the exhibition “Threads of Solidarity: European Support for the Struggle Against Apartheid.”
What does solidarity look like in fabric, film, and memory?
Each of the 27 squares in the Threads of Solidarity quilt tells the story of citizens from the 27 European Union countries who stood alongside South Africans in the struggle against apartheid.
Italy’s contribution is highlighted through photographs from Reggio Emilia, a city that played a pivotal role in the liberation struggle by forging a Pact of Solidarity with the liberation movement. Reggio Emilia became a place of refuge for many anti-apartheid activists during some of the most difficult years of oppression.
