The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World  2025 – South Africa

The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World is one of the longest-running initiatives promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Launched in 2016 to highlight quality, sustainability, food safety, and Italian culinary traditions, the event showcases Italy’s excellence in gastronomy, culture, and innovation. The 2025 edition, celebrating its 10th anniversary, focuses on “Italian Cuisine: Culture, Health, and Innovation”, emphasizing the Italian diet as a healthy, sustainable, and innovative model.

This year, the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria, together with the Embassy of Italy, celebrates Italian culinary heritage, sustainable food systems, and international collaboration through four exciting events. The Institute has invited Amanda Romero Ferrer from the Slow Food Movement in Italy for a week of talks and activities dedicated to food, sustainability, and culture:

  1. CORE-SFS – Innovating Tomorrow’s Food Systems

The future of sustainable food systems explored by Italian and South African researchers and early-career scientists. Hosted alongside Science Forum South Africa 2025, this event highlights Africa–Europe collaboration in sustainable innovation, health, and culture.

  1. Gastronomic Dinner with Morgenster

    A special dinner featuring Morgenster wines, celebrating the flavors and traditions of Italian cuisine in a gastronomic experience curated for the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World.
  2. Masterclass on Slow Food
    28 November 2025 | 12:00 – 13:30 | Prue Leith Academy
    Amanda Romero Ferrer (Slow Food Italy) leads a hands-on masterclass on sustainable and mindful eating practices, sharing insights on the Slow Food Movement and its global impact.
  3. Long Table Session – Slow Food Movement for Sustainable Food Systems

    A rich discussion on the role of the Slow Food Movement in promoting sustainable and equitable food systems, with local and international experts for a unique culinary and cultural experience.
