Under the Spell of Africa - is a program of "artistic contamination" between Italy and Africa promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and curated by Adriana Rispoli. The project aims at leading to the production of six site-specific works in as many African countries (Senegal, Ethiopia, South Africa, Mozambique, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo) in which different contemporary languages are the result of the synergic work of Italian artists with the territory in which they interact.

Flavio Favelli (Florence 1967) is a multimedia artist whose aesthetic language recalls suggestions from conceptual and behavioral art. His research has been developing as an investigation into the flows of existence, as a subjective and collective memory condensed in objects or environments, expanding to the urban sphere. He has exhibited in important spaces and museums of contemporary art in Italy and abroad, including MAXXI in Rome, Castello di Rivoli in Turin, Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation in Turin, GAMEC in Bergamo, MAMBO in Bologna, MACRO in Rome, Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, MOCA, Chicago, IIC in New York and Los Angeles and has participated in two Venice Biennials: the 50th edition in "Clandestini", curated by F. Bonami and the 55th edition in the "ViceVersa" Pavilion Italy curated by B.Pietromarchi, and at the Biennial of Havana in 2012. In 2014 he held an artist residency at the Italian Embassy in Istanbul.
