History

The Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Pretoria is the cultural office of the Italian Diplomatic mission in South Africa. It was established in 1998.

Our offices are in Pretoria, opposite the Italian Embassy. 803 George Avenue, Arcadia, Pretoria.

Our mission is to promote the Italian language and culture in the host country. Supporting the activities already carried out by the Embassies and Consulates, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura identify the most appropriate methods of promoting the image of Italy as a centre of production, conservation and cultural diffusion, from classical times to the present, and creates contacts and premises in order to facilitate the integration of Italian operators into cultural exchanges and productions of an international level). Our jurisdiction is the whole territory of South Africa. We have also participated in events in neighbouring countries where there is no Istituto present (Namibia, Madagascar).

We are active in these main areas of promotion: language courses, CILS certification exams, scholarships, library, and events.
We have a website: www.iicpretoria.esteri.it and a Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/iicpretoria
People wishing to be included in our mailing list to receive information on events and opportunity, can subscribe to our newsletter sent out at least twice a month.
