The winner is Gian Maria Tosatti

The Cape Town Award, which saw the candidacy of many emerging and well-known Italian artists, closed for applications on 10 December. The jury, composed by Fabio Troisi (Italian Institute of Culture in Pretoria), Carolina Italiano (Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities) and Josh Ginsburg (A4 Arts Foundation), has selected Gian Maria Tosatti, artist in between visual art and architecture, which explores the themes of the concept of political and spiritual identity, the archetypes of the urban landscape and personal memory.

Tosatti will be in Cape Town from February to April 2019, where he will have the opportunity to interact with the local cultural environment while continuing with his artistic research.

Within the framework of the cultural program "Italy, Culture, Africa", the Directorate General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Periphery of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC), the Country System Department of the MAECI and the Italian Institute of Culture in Pretoria launch the “Cape Town Prize ", a program of artistic residency for Italian artists. The winner of the "Cape Town Prize" will be offered the opportunity to spend a period of three months (February - April 2019) in Cape Town with the aim of developing their creative skills in contact with the South African cultural and artistic environment.
