The Italian Cultural Institute of Pretoria, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Pretoria, is pleased to present two exceptional concerts – on the 3 and 4 June 2026 in Pretoria and Johannesburg, respectively – by the Italian songwriter Floriana Cangiano, performing as Flo, accompanied by guitarist Alessandro Morlando and percussionist Pasquale di Lascio.
Songwriter, author, and theater actress, Flo is an unpredictable and refined artist, gifted with a visceral voice and a persuasive and original writing style. Tireless musical researcher, she travels in search of stories, traditions, and cultural influences, creating shows that blend rhythm, rituality, dance, and a vibrant theatrical dimension.
With her first album, D’Amore e di altre cose irreversibili (2014), she received some of Italy’s most prestigious awards, including the Musicultura Award and the Andrea Parodi Award, and with her subsequent albums – Il mese del rosario (2016), La mentirosa (2018) and 31Salvitutti (2020) – she has established herself as one of the most refined voices in contemporary Italian songwriting and world music.
On June 3, the stage will also feature renowned South African jazz pianist Yonela Mnana, whose presence will create a unique artistic dialogue between Italian songwriting and South African jazz traditions.
During these concerts, Flo will present her latest project, Brave Ragazze (2022), which is her first concept album: a work of research and translation dedicated to the masterpieces of some of the most courageous and controversial female artists in the Latin world.
