The Dante Alighieri Society of Antananarivo in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria and IFM – Institut Français de Madagascar, presents two Italian films on 13th November 2026. These events aim to bring the most recent Italian Cinema to Madagascar.
The programme will feature two screenings:
- Tienimi presente (2025, Dir. Alberto Palmiero). The film is a tender and ironic portrait of a generation facing uncertainty and searching for purpose. The protagonist, Alberto, a disillusioned young filmmaker, returns to his hometown after spending years in Rome pursuing his dream of making films. While he was living his old life, meeting his old friends, he had new encounters and a slower life compared to the new roman rhythms. Yet, his doubts and forgotten ambitions resurface. Alberto must decide whether to stay or turn his experience into a story.
- Cinque secondi (2025), directed by Paolo Virzì, tells the story of Adriano Sereni, a once-successful lawyer who, following a tragic event, withdraws from society and lives in solitude in an old stable. The arrival of a group of young people at the abandoned villa opposite his home disrupts his daily routine. Through this encounter, Adriano is forced to confront his past, his feelings of guilt, and the challenges of fatherhood, embarking on a journey towards possible reconciliation with himself and others.
