ITALIAN SCREENS is an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the General Directorate for Cinema and Audiovisual of the Ministry of Culture (DGCA-MiC), organized by Cinecittà.

After the first successful edition of Italian Screen in 2024, the Italian Institute of Culture in Pretoria, the Italian Embassy, the Italian Consulate General in Johannesburg and the Italian Consulate in Cape Town are collaborating to present to the South Africa audience a second edition, in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The 4 films presented in South Africa, in Italian with English subtitles, will be: Il primo giorno della mia vita (The First Day of my Life) by Paolo Genovese, Romeo è Giulietta (Romeo is Juliet) by Giovanni Veronesi, Confidenza (Trust) by Daniele Luchetti, Il sol dell’avvenire (A Brighter Tomorrow) by Nanni Moretti.

The schedule and venues of the festival are as follows:

Johannesburg

Cape Town

Roberto Stabile, Head of the Italian Screens Project, will attend the opening in Cape Town to present to local operators the best of what the Italian audiovisual system has to offer in order to encourage co-productions, the growth of the professional quality of our industry and the internationalization of our cinema. The event also represents an important networking opportunity to allow industry professionals to get in touch with those who can best illustrate the programme of incentives at national and regional level to support production for those filming in Italy.

The initiative is part of a broader project to deepen cultural relations between Italy and South Africa, organized by Cinecittà for the DGCA of the MiC in order to encourage opportunities for producers, distributors and creatives from the two countries.

  • Organized by: Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Pretoria
