The Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria is delighted to announce the arrival of the renowned Duo Nordio & Sciortino in South Africa, featuring two of Italy’s most distinguished classical musicians. Domenico Nordio, an internationally acclaimed violinist, and Orazio Sciortino, an award-winning pianist, composer, and conductor, will bring their exceptional artistry to South African audiences in two exclusive concerts, presenting a refined selection of masterworks for violin and piano.
The program includes:
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Variations K359
- Claude Debussy – Sonata in G minor
- Maurice Ravel – Violin and Piano Sonata No. 1 (Sonate posthume)
- Francis Poulenc – Sonata
Domenico Nordio is widely recognized as one of the finest violinists of his generation. He has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. A winner of the Grand Prix Eurovision in 1988, he has collaborated with leading orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of France, the Accademia di Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome, and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra.
Orazio Sciortino is a pianist, composer, and conductor who was named “Composer of the Year 2024” at the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA). His collaborations extend across leading institutions such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, as well as international venues including the Konzerthaus in Berlin and Megaron in Athens. He has recorded for prestigious labels such as Sony Classical and Hänssler Classic and currently serves as professor and head of the piano department at the Brescia Conservatory.
