The European Film Festival returns to South Africa: a cinematic journey across Europe
The much-anticipated European Film Festival is back in South Africa, offering film enthusiasts an exclusive showcase of the very best in contemporary European cinema. The festival will take place from 17 to 27 September 2026 across various South African cities and online, featuring a rich programme of screenings and events.
This year, the festival presents a selection of films from Denmark, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom—offering a unique window into the diversity of cultures, storytelling, and cinematic styles across the continent.
The European Film Festival is more than just a film showcase; it is a cultural bridge connecting South Africa and Europe through the universal language of cinema.
We are delighted to announce that Italy will be represented by La Grazia, the latest film by acclaimed Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, starring Toni Servillo and Anna Ferzetti.

La Grazia
La Grazia is an intimate and compelling drama exploring love, family, duty, justice and personal responsibility.
The film follows Mariano De Santis, the fictional President of the Italian Republic, as he approaches the end of his mandate. Faced with two requests for presidential pardon, he must navigate complex questions of justice and compassion while confronting his own convictions, memories and relationship with his daughter.
With Sorrentino’s distinctive cinematic style and a powerful performance by Toni Servillo, La Grazia offers a thoughtful portrait of a man caught between public responsibility and private convictions.
