One hundred years after his death, the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria is ready to pay tribute to the genius of Giacomo Puccini and to three of his most famous operas: Madama Butterfly, Tosca and La Boheme.
Renowned for his emotionally charged operas, Puccini is a towering figure in the history of classical music. His works are celebrated for their lush melodies and vivid characterizations, capturing the essence of the human experience. Despite personal challenges, he remained dedicated to his craft, leaving a lasting legacy as one of the greatest opera composers of all time.
The scenes are enacted by the dancers of the prestigious Joburg Ballet, with choreography by Mario Gaglione.
Mario Gaglione joined the Joburg Ballet in 2020 as a solo dancer; since then, he has had the opportunity to play numerous roles in the company’s repertoire, as well as the opportunity to broaden his choreographic voice and create new productions under Artistic Director Elroy Fillis-Bell.
The cast of “Omaggio a Puccini – Tribute to Puccini” will consist of the following Joburg Ballet dancers: Monike Cristina, Ryoko Yagyu, Ivan Domiciano, Savannah Jacobson, Rhulani Moloi, and Bruno Miranda.
