Congratulations to The director of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town @Koyo Kouoh, who has been appointed artistic director of the 61. International Art Exhibition in Venice Biennale 2026.
Koyo Kouoh’s life and work embody a dynamic blend of cultures. Born in Cameroon and raised in Switzerland, she currently divides her time between Cape Town, Dakar, and Basel. As a prominent figure in the art world, Kouoh brings a pan-African and international perspective to her work. Her achievements include being the first African woman appointed curator of the prestigious Art Biennale.
Since 2019, Kouoh has served as the director of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town. Her previous roles include founding and directing RAW Material Company, a renowned center for art, knowledge, and society in Dakar. Kouoh’s curatorial expertise has been showcased in prominent international art events, such as documenta 12 (2007) and documenta 13 (2012).
