1. Foreword
The University for Foreigners of Perugia (UniStraPG) is offering in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) one scholarship for the Master’s degree in “Teaching of the italian language to foreigners” – ITAS (Laurea Magistrale per l’Insegnamento dell’Italiano a Stranieri) AY 2025/26. The Education Office at the Consulate General of Italy has been tasked with selecting deserving students from South Africa who are eager to enhance their knowledge of the Italian language and culture.
Applications will be ranked, and the name of the top student will be forwarded to UniStraPG for the scholarship awards.
2. Scholarship
The scholarship can be used exclusively for the ITAS course mentioned above and it will be granted in the academic year 2025/26 and for the following academic year, provided that the student obtains 40 credits by 30 September 2026.
The grant has a value of 6,250.00 Euros for each year of course. The beneficiary candidate will also be exempted from payment of registration fees for the legal duration of the ITAS master’s degree course. The student will be required to pay 156.00 Euro corresponding to the regional tax for the right to study and the related stamp duty.
3. Who is eligible
You are eligible for the scholarship if:
– you hold a South African university degree of at least Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts Honours with assessments in Italian language and culture;
– you are not older than 28 years (born after 16 May 1996);
– you know the Italian language at B2/QCER level;
– you have an adequate motivation.
4. Application
The application, which consists of:
– Form attached herewith duly completed – Copy of the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Arts Honours or Master’s degree with exam statement – copy of passport
must be sent to: scuola.johannesburg@esteri.it no later than 12.00 on Wednesday, 4th June 2025.
On the morning of 5th June 2025, at a time to be announced, there will be a motivational interview with the candidate.
5. Selection criteria
The criteria to rank the applications are:
– Academic achievements – Motivation expressed in the interview – At equal score, the younger age
6. Information
Once selected, the application of the candidate will be taken in charge by the University for Foreigners of Perugia and the applicant will be assisted in the followuing procedures, giving all the information for the pre-registration and the application of the study visa if requested (student not EU).
